Course Overview: The Occupational Health & Safety Act defines a supervisor as “a person who has charge of a workplace or authority over a worker”. With the high expectations and legal responsibilities that come with the supervisory position, supervisors must be equipped to carry out their roles to meet MLITSD guidelines competently. [OHSA S. 27 (1)(2)]

This course provides supervisors with the knowledge base and tools to effectively carry out their roles as well as ensure due diligence and compliance with the OH&S Act and Regulations.

Competent Supervisor Modules:

  • Understanding the Occupational Health & Safety Act and why Health & Safety is so important
  • Duties and responsibilities of employers, supervisors, workers and those of a H&S Representative
  • What is the role of a Health & Safety Rep/Supervisor and how they play an important function in keeping the workplace safe
  • How to Recognize hazards
  • How to conduct a hazard risk assessment and use the RACE method of controlling identified hazards
  • How to conduct an effective Workplace Inspection
  • Accident / Incident Investigation Essentials
  • How to make a safety recommendation to the employer
  • What will be your next steps

green-ohsa-stackedMaterials Provided: Each learner will be shipped a package that includes a participants’ manual, a copy of the OHSA and instructions on how to access the virtual classroom.

Evaluation and Proof of Completion: All participants will be required to successfully complete a theory exam with a minimum mark of 75%. Certification of completion will be provided upon successful completion of the program.

Virtual Learning: This is a situation in which the instructor and learners are separated by location. By the use of webcams, the instructor will lead the training in real-time and will move through the learning outcomes together with the learners virtually.

Technology Requirements: The class will be hosted using Zoom. Participants will need to use a webcam for certain parts of the training such as ID verification and engagement monitoring.

Participants will need: – A reliable internet connection – A computer (laptop, desktop, or tablet) – A webcam and a microphone – A photo ID
