Course Content:

All necessary training equipment is provided by Mentor Safety.

Program Objectives: Upon successful completion of an approved program, certified members will have the knowledge and skills needed to fulfill their legislated duties as JHSC certified members and will be able to support the workplace parties in understanding their roles as part of the IRS in preventing occupational injuries and illnesses.

Who would benefit:
Any employer with 20 or more employees.
Any worker or management employee who wishes to add to their skill base.

Regulations and Guidelines: Certification of Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members is required under section 9 of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

9. (1)

(a) to a constructor at a project at which work is expected to last less than three months; or
(b) to a prescribed employer or workplace or class of employers or workplaces. R.S.O. 1990, c. O.1, s. 9 (1).


(a) at a workplace at which twenty or more workers are regularly employed;
(b) at a workplace with respect to which an order to an employer is in effect under section 33; or
(c) at a workplace, other than a construction project where fewer than twenty workers are regularly employed, with respect to which a regulation concerning designated substances applies. R.S.O. 1990, c. O.1, s. 9 (2).
